
Introduction to Fine Woodworking
This 9 week course will introduce you the fundamentals of woodworking and you will gain knowledge of furniture making practices with a focus on hand cut joinery. You will learn about hand tools, their use and selection. Simon will go over skills such as measuring, marking out, planing, sawing, routing, sanding and finishing.
The introductory course includes tool maintenance such as fine tuning and fettling handplanes, sharpening blades and chisels etc.
Practical exercises will include marking out and cutting mortise and tenon, half lap joints, dovetails whilst working on some fun set projects.
Introductory classes include materials and light refreshments. The school is well equipped with quality hand tools, however if you have your own, please feel free to bring them along to classes.
