Federal Court Suite
In 2008 I was apppointed along with furniture maker Leon Sadubin to create a design concept for the judicial benches, witness stand and bar table in the new primary and ceremonial court of the Federal Court of Australia in the Queens Square Law Courts in Sydney. The Design was accepted. To complete the huge commission I set up a new state of the art workshop in Toronto West in NSW and employed two people (Matthew Prince, TAS and Jayben Jervis, QLD) on a full time basis. On the 10th of March 2010 the suite was installed ready to use just in time for the Chief Justice Michael Black's retirement ceremony (see photos).
The suite is made from one blackwood log which I handpicked at Corinna Timbermill in Tasmania and I have to thank the guys there for their patience pulling one log out after the other until the right one was unveiled. The log went to my workshop where it was cut into veneers on my Hitachi Resaw Bandsaw and dried in my custom built kiln.
